Physical Surrealism

One of the most misused character types in Impro is the child. In our attempt to connect with our inner child through adult make-believe play, we seem to overcorrect and forget that children can be autonomous, intelligent, three-dimensional and fully formed human beings who experience emotions and have opinions. This workshop will explore how we can interpret child characters of different ages and levels of independence.

About Soledad Cardigni:

She began teaching improvisation in 2008. After completing the Lecoq School, she began to include physical theatre in her classes, incorporating theatrical resources into improvisation. Then she started practising dance and improvised dance, and from that moment on she began to investigate the intersections between movement and theatre in improvisation.

She has given her workshops - the fruit of her research - ‘Todes en escena’ and ‘Surrealismo físico’ in Buenos Aires, Chile, Costa Rica, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.

In 2018, she created her own company, ‘Minusas al vacío’ (now ‘Minusas Teatre’), with 13 women artists. Together they developed the ‘Minusas Jam’ format, where they use dance, live music and theatre to create different situations. This show has already been performed with different casts in various cities (San José, Costa Rica - Madrid - Palma), and is currently showing in Barcelona with the current cast.

She has directed and created the improvisation shows ‘Filtros’ by the feminist company Aish Impro, ‘Tiempo Muerto’, the clowning play “Pelpas” and ‘La Norma’ (in development).

He currently teaches movement at Teatracció, an international school of physical theatre, as well as improvised dance and physical theatre at Espai Piluso.
