MANCHESTER POPFEST 2025:

Friday 4th July (7pm)

14 ICED BEARS
Brighton’s 14 Iced Bears were part of the C86 wave of bands, releasing a single on seminal label Sarah Records in the late 80’s. Their sound blends fuzzed out dreamy indie with shoegaze which brings to mind the Field Mice and the Pastels.

LANDE HEKT
Bristol’s Lande Hekt writes introspective bedroom pop and indie rock with songs of beautiful intensity and an ear for a catchy tune reminiscent of artists like Courtney Barnett and the jangly guitars of Alvvays.

THE EARLY MORNINGS
Originally from Manchester and now based in London, the Early Morning’s mix Raincoats-esq post punk with their own brand of frenetic and intelligent indie, throwing together influences ranging from the pixies to the modern lovers and anything in between.

THE CANNANES (AUS)
Australian indie pop band have the Cannanes have been making music since the mid 80’s, forming around a similar time to their American counterparts Beat Happening and releasing several albums on K records. They have a similar ability to write deceptively simple songs that mix beautiful melodies with a wistful folky sound that is difficult not to fall in love with. Surely one of the greatest underground bands to come from those shores.

THE YUMMY FUR
Scottish indie rock legends the Yummy Fur have been bringing their short, angular art rock/ post punk sound since the early 90’s, John Peel favourites influenced by the Fall and influencing countless bands, from Franz Ferdinand to the Gossip.

DAILY TOLL (AUS)
Sydney based 3 piece, the project of self taught musician, poet & artist Kata Szász-Komlós bring off kilter rhythms and folk song with a sound reminiscent of Flying Nun bands the Bats and the Clean. Their debut album is soon to be released on Tough Love records.

C TURTLE
Lo-if indie 4 piece C Turtle mix scuzzy guitars, off beat harmonies and raucous drums which bring to mind Pavement or Times New Viking, with their debut single ‘Shake it down’ especially referencing mid 90’s bands such as Urusei Yatsura.

HOMEWORK
Homework are a Glasgow based indie-rock 4 piece that have a melodic/ fuzzy slacker vibe that is reminiscent of Pavement or early Teenage Fanclub, with a nod to the warbled brilliance of bands like Yo la Tengo and Modest Mouse.

AUTOCAMPER
Manchester’s own jangle pop heroes who have recently signed to Slumberland records, with a sound that fuses early Postcard records, the Pastels and Orange Juice.

ALL GIRLS ARSON CLUB
Officially my favourite local band, from the first chords of Supermarket Song they bring the bits of the Moldy Peaches and Beat Happening and yet still sound original, not to be missed.
